“Best Debut of 2004”
All About Jazz – NY

Ayelet’s debut album, revealing some of her most prominent influences, as she covers “Portrait” by Charles Mingus, “Peace” by Ornette Coleman & “You’re Driving Me Crazy” (a playful jazz standard by Walter Donaldson). Within her text sources, you can find Wassily Kandinsky’s musings on music and art. The majority of the titles are originals by Gottlieb, presenting her diverse musical approach, ranging from open, exploratory improvisations (such as Brewing the Brews of Distance) to through composed pieces (such as “As I Lay”, giving a little preview to the Mayim Rabim song cycle). The recording features Ayelet (voice), Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Matana Roberts (alto sax), Shahar Levavi (guitar), Matt Mitchell (piano), Ed Schuller (bass) and Bob Meyer (drums)
